10th Annual Dialogue Dinner & Award Ceremony
The Tenth Annual Atlantic Institute Dialogue Dinner was held at the Marriot Hotel in Mobile, AL, on October 30, 2014. Mr. Barry Silverman, Master of Ceremonies, first greeted the guests, and then invited Mr. Umit Gunebir, Executive Director of the Atlantic Institute of Alabama, to the podium. Mr. Gunebir expressed his deep appreciation to the invitees for their dedicated interest and service in promoting dialogue that we may understand and respect one another more thoroughly. Dr. Tim Crain, the keynote speaker, expounded that the purpose of the dialogue is to bridge cultures in the southeast, specifically in Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Highlighting the historical viewpoint of the three Abrahamic religions, he pointed out the eternal truth. "We are all of one race, the human race." It is our intention to celebrate our commonality rather than exaggerate our differences. He concluded by asking us to consider first that we dance on this planet a short period of time, and secondly, that that which binds us together is far more significant than that which divides us. After students from the University of Mobile presented a Welsh Revival, brimming with Celtic instrumental music, song, and dance, awards were presented to those who have outstandingly served the Institute’s purpose. The Education Award was presented to Dr. John Switzer for relentless work in promoting clear understanding of the purpose of the Institute. The Community Service Award was presented to Dan Williams. The Media award was presented to Rob Holbert and Ashley Toland-Trice.
