Terror in the Name of Islam – Unholy War Not Jihad, presented Parvez Ahmed, Ph.D.
Dr. Ahmed is the Director of Center for Sustainable Business Practices and Professor of Finance at the Coggin College of Business, University of North Florida (UNF). In 2009, Dr. Ahmed was named a U.S. Fulbright Scholar. Prior to joining UNF, he taught at Penn State University – Harrisburg and University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he also served as the founding Faculty Advisor for the Student Managed Investment Fund. At PSU, he was also the Associate Director of the Giant Food Center for Economic Development. He has led student study abroad programs to London, Paris, Turkey and Egypt.
Dr. Ahmed spoke on terrorism in general with a focus on the areas of; the nature of terrorism, the methods used to address terrorism, the world-wide view of Islam, the contextual interpretations of specific verses in the Qur’an, public condemnation of terrorism by Muslim leaders and the climate of suspicion of Muslims today.
Dr. Ahmed’s presentation is based on a paper that he had published by the same title in the Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law.
