Steve Severance, Pastor of Birmingham First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, lectured guests of the Atlantic Institute about the Seventh Day Adventist Church and its beliefs. The pastor outlined the church's recommendation of vegetarianism for its members, as well as its similarities with the Jewish and Muslim faiths. These similarities include an emphasis on not consuming alcohol and unclean meats, such as pig and shellfish. Pastor Severance also detailed the methods and history of outreach of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which participates in missionary and humanitarian activity throughout the developing world through the construction of churches and hospitals. Furthermore, the church advocates for education of the youth through its cutting-edge universities and other educational institutions.
