"Love is a Verb" chronicles the career of Fethullah Gülen and the Hizmet (“The Service”) movement he initiated. The movie shows numerous examples of Hizmet lived out according to Gülen’s principles of mutual respect, dialog and genuine care. These principles cut across religious, ethnic and geographical barriers to inspire people of good will to the service of humanity.
Gülen’s personal trajectory is described from being an innovative Muslim cleric in the 1960’s to a worldwide leader for education, tolerance and peace. Moreover, Love is a Verb shows how Hizmet followers educate underprivileged children, feed starving people and care for the sick, even when there is significant personal risk or sacrifice involved. The examples highlight the shared values of interfaith service when Muslims, Christians, Jews and other traditions co-operate for the good of all people.
"Love is a Verb" celebrates the value of human life and the tangible impact of the Hizmet movement. Hizmet is now larger than any one man, because through it Gülen has shown how to live in a global interfaith community.
