2014 Atlantic Curriculum Enhancement Program (ACEP)
2014 Atlantic Faculty Development and Curriculum Enhancement Program (ACEP)
Every year we organize Atlantic Faculty Development and Curriculum Enhancement Program (ACEP) for college and university professors in the Southeastern United States. The program consists of three components: educational workshops, a 10 day trip to Turkey, and follow-up presentations. We have recently added a fellowship program for PhD students as well. More information is available in the link below.
Turkey is the only Muslim majority country with a secular democratic political system in the Middle East. It has been and continues to be a bridge between East and West, between past and present. Its growing political influence in Europe and the Middle East, coupled with its growing economy, has resulted in an increased interest of Turkey for academics interested in the region. It is therefore imperative for American scholars to understand the political and cultural dynamics of Turkey, an important American ally.
With a combination of the workshops, international travel, and follow-up presentations, this program arms faculty with the proper tools to develop an engaging curriculum that deals with Turkish-related issues, such as Turkey’s political position in European and global contexts, women’s issues, Islam and religion, economic affairs, arts, and architecture and incorporating that into their course curricula.
ACEP also focuses on providing networking opportunities so that educators may forge lasting relationships between Turkish and American academic institutions. These newfound relationships would make it possible to further develop faculty and student exchange programs.
ACEP is open to scholars and students from the fields including, but not limited to, Political Science, International Affairs, Business, Economics, Area Studies (Europe, Eurasia, Middle East), Journalism (Media, Communication) and Religious Studies (i.e. Biblical studies, Islamic Studies, Theology).
